Matloding learners receive shoes and sanitary towels

Every school learner loves going to school in clean and presentable uniform and good school shoes form a big part of this uniform. But for some, worn out shoes is all they have.

This has however changed for some learners of Matloding Primary School, who received brand new school shoes and sanitary pads from MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe, and Ratlou Local Municipality Mayor, Tebogo Modise.

During one of her visits to the school last year, MEC Gaolaolwe undertook to lend a hand after seeing many learners going to school without proper shoes. In a separate visit when Gaolaolwe attended to sewer spillage complaints in the same village, she found that there were more needs, largely for learners from poor families.

“Government wants to continue working with schools to identify other areas that need interventions. We rely on educators to give us information on all matters concerning education of our kids.

“We acknowledge that coming from impoverished background can deter learners’ focus from their studies. From regularly sleeping on an empty stomach to being constantly ridiculed for your worn out school shoes is also discouraging,” said the MEC.
