The North West Department of Education and Sport Development,
in partnership with Countrywide Sport, have fulfilled
their mandate to facilitate the recently launched Wednesday in-school sporting codes as part of villages, townships and small dorpies (VTSD) initiative.
This initiative is centred on developing secondary school girls and boys under the age of 17 years in the field of sports
to unravel raw talent in the province among learners in disadvantaged areas.
The soccer league, which is at sub-district level, kicked off at Maquassie Hills on the 5th of May 2018. This past weekend, on the 19th of May 2018, it took
place in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati

District at Coldridge Stadium with fixtures as follows:
Setswakgosing vs Ipeleng Secondary
School (Boys U/17) – the final score 3 – 0.
Monchusi vs Itshupeng Secondary School (Girls U/17) – the final score 1– 0. Ngaka Modiri Molema and Bojanala districts
knockout took place on Wednesday,
23 May 2018 at NWU and Sun Village Complex respectively. Dr Kenneth Kaunda District knockout
will take place on 26 May 2018. This league is the first of its kind in the province. Education and Sport Development MEC, Sello Lehari, said he
is pleased with the full participation of schools in the province.

“As the department, we have revitalized the importance of sport in schools hence Wednesdays are reserved as sports day. I urge learners to take part in sporting activities,
which can open doors for them,
like it did for Percy Tau. “Recently, we received Barcelona in our South African shores and got to witness them play with Mamelodi Sundowns.
This should serve as a motivation to our young athletes that anything is possible,”
said the MEC.
