Professor Tebogo Job Mokgoro has been described as an excellent administrator who knows exactly what Bokone Bophirima province needs.
The African National Congress (ANC) announced his name on Thursday as the successor to former Premier, Supra Mahumapelo, to lead the North West Provincial Government for the remainder of this term of office.
Until now, Mokgoro has been leading the Ikatisong School of Governance in the province. His capabilities are unquestionable.
“Professor Mokgoro is a tried and tested administrator fit enough to deal with the challenges at hand, including creating stability within the provincial administration and effecting the much needed delivery of basic services,” said ANC Secretary General, Ace Magashule.
“Professor Mokgoro is currently responsible for the School of Governance in the North West Provincial Administration, with an outstanding history of service in South Africa. Professor Mokgoro holds a number of administrative and academic accolades including a Masters and Honorary Doctorate in Public Administration from the University of Toledo in the United States”.
In April 1994 Professor Mokgoro became the first Director-General of the North West Administration tasked with rationalising and integrating three government administrations into one North West province, Magashule said.
“From the end of 1999 until January 2003, Professor Mokgoro served as the Director-General of the South African Management Development Institute,” he said.
Mokgoro will be sworn in as Premier on Friday.
ANC Provincial Chairperson, Supra Mahumapelo, was at Mokgoro’s side during the announcement at Luthuli House.
“We want to confirm here today that as the PEC [Provincial Executive Committee] we will be supporting unashamedly, without any ambiguousness, we will relentlessly support the new Premier who is deployed by the African National Congress, Professor Mokgoro. We will as Officials in the province, the PWC and the PEC, be working with him. We will also be inviting him to be part of the structures of the organization in an ex-officio capacity so that we can make sure that we strengthen the links and communication among ourselves,” Mahumapelo said.
He added that Mokgoro has been part of the ANC establishment for many years.
“In as far as administration is concerned, he is one of the excellent administrators in this country. We have been working with him for many, many years. As the former Premier I’ve also worked with him when we started the Fifth Administration. So he did an excellent, excellent work. He has at all times made sure that we do our best to deliver the necessary services to our people. So we’ll be working with him, to build the province, make sure that there’s healing, reconciliation and renewal of the province [and] deliver services to the people,” the former Premier said.
The ANC in Bokone Bophirima also welcomed the appointment of Prof Mokgoro as new Premier, saying it had “full confidence in Cde Mokgoro as one of the astute administrators and ANC cadres.
“We have no doubt that this is one of the best decisions for Bokone Bophirima province and there should be no winners and losers around how Prof Mokgoro became the Premier,” the ANC said in a statement.
Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature, Sussana Dantjie, has called a Special House Sitting for the election of the new Premier.
