For those who want to become residents of Blydeville Extension 4, it was all excitement when they heard that the Department of Local Government and Human Settlements has begun the process of developing this new settlement.

Local Government and Human Settlements MEC, Galaletsang Gaolaolwe, and Ditsobotla Local Municipality Mayor, Daniel Buthelezi, met the community at the local sports field for a sod-turning ceremony to mark the beginning of the project.

They also introduced to the community two contractors appointed by the department to start the project, which will include installing the necessary internal infrastructure in the area.

MEC Gaolaolwe told residents that the work that started in July this year would be completed in July next year, exactly 12 months after it had begun. She reassured the community that the department would fulfil its initial promise of building houses at Blydeville Extension 4.

“There are certain developmental processes that must be adhered to first before the actual houses can be built in this area,” she told residents.

Gaolaolwe added that the department had already appointed Maseno General Trade and Maron Construction to install water and sanitation infrastructure for the Blydeville Extension 4 settlement.

The project is expected to create employment and economic empowerment for both residents and local contractors.

Mathys Moreo, who lives in the Blydeville informal settlement and is also on the housing waiting list, was excited about the developments in the area and expressed hope that he would also get a house of his own this time around.
