Executive Mayor of Madibeng Local Municipality, Jostina Mothibe, has assured sector government departments based in the municipality that the council will work well with them to ensure residents received quality services.

Mothibe and Speaker of the Council, Kabelo Ntshabele, Municipal Public Accounts Committee Chairperson, Diale Diale, members of the Mayoral Committee, Acting Municipal Manager, Energy Manaka and Directors in the council, met representatives of all government departments that work in Madibeng last week.

"As a new administration we want to ensure that we start our term on the right footing by prioritising issues of inter-governmental relations. We are here today to engage on issues of development in our municipality, note where we share common objectives and most importantly to give inputs that will result in achieving our common goal of bettering the lives of our people," she said.

Mothibe added that the municipality was mandated by law to involve other spheres of government in finding the best solutions that would assist in achieving long-term development.

"The establishment and maintenance of relations between all spheres of government is a legislative requirement in terms of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa of 1996," she said.

Acting Municipal Manager, Energy Manaka, presented a progress report on the First 100 days of the Executive Mayor in Office, which included among others construction of roads, regravelling and patching of potholes, stakeholder engagements with business, communities structures and traditional authorities, renovations of community halls, revenue enhancement, horticultural maintenance in Brits, Elandsrand, Primindia, and Hartbeespoort and issuing of title deeds. Support of Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) as well as the electrification of outstanding areas in the municipality were also in the progress report.

Mayor Mothibe committed the municipality to delivering all programmes as planned. "There will be no excuses, we will call a press briefing at the end of this programme to give feedback," she said.
